Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Tax Credit  

The Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax credit program encourages innovation by offering tax credits for eligible R&D activities. Automotive manufacturers can claim expenditures related, but not limited to: 

  • Developing or improving products, processes, or technologies 
  • Experimenting with new materials or manufacturing methods 
  • Conducting feasibility studies

The Export Development Canada (EDC) Trade Impact Program is a federal funding program that has aims to provide roughly $5 billion in financial support over two years (2025-2027) to help Canadian exporters and their suppliers manage global economic uncertainty. It offers enhanced access to insurance, financing, and risk mitigation solutions to strengthen international trade efforts. This funding program supports: 

  • Trade credit insurance to safeguard against foreign buyer non-payment; and/or 
  • Foreign exchange risk mitigation tools to stabilize costs and preserve margins; and/or 
  • Working capital guarantees to help secure more financing from financial institutions; and/or 
  • Expansion financing to support international growth, including acquisitions and market entry; and/or 
  • Activities that support supply chain resilience and export-readiness are also likely to be eligible. 

Ontario Together Trade Fund (OTTF) 

The Ontario Together Trade Fund (OTTF) is a $50 million government funding program aimed at helping businesses make near-term investments to serve more interprovincial customers, develop new markets, and re-shore critical supply chains. Funding supports projects working on: 

  • Facility upgrades, equipment, and machinery; and/or  
  • One-time labour and specialized expertise; and/or 
  • Materials, training, and market access; and/or 
  • New certifications, labeling, and product adaptation for new markets.
