SCAP – AgriAssurance: SME Stream

The AgriAssurance: SME Stream program is a stream of funding provided through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP), a 5-year framework to support Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sector. AgriAssurance is specifically designed to help businesses implement third-party assurance certification projects that address international market requirements and help expand export opportunities.

The SME Stream offers up to 50% of funding for eligible expenses to a maximum of $50,000 per project. There is a maximum of $100,000 per applicant if they have multiple projects.

Eligible Applicants

If an applicant meets the following criteria, they may be eligible:

  • Applicants are a for-profit small and medium sized enterprise (SME);
  • Must be operating in agriculture, agri-food, and agri-based sectors including;
    • Businesses;
    • Co-operatives; and
    • Indigenous groups.
  • SMEs must:
    • Be involved in the process of growing, harvesting, or processing agri-products;
    • Have less than 250 employees;
    • Have revenues lower than $50M annually;
    • Are independently incorporated;
    • Are export-ready with completed market research readily available.
Accessible Technology Program (ATP)

Eligible Activities

Eligible activities may include:

  • Projects that help Canadian agricultural and agri-food sector SMEs get a third-party certification for the first time required to meet a specific export opportunity;
    • Obtaining a contract for third-party certification for agri-food products needed to enter identifiable export markets;
    • Hiring for employees dedicated to making such certification arrangements; and
    • Travel expenses associated with obtaining such a certificate.
  • Renewal of third-party certifications are ineligible.
