The Kosher and Halal Investment Program is an opportunity to help your business enhance your kosher and halal meat processing efficiency. Funding is designed to support your initiatives and boost productivity. The program objectives include:

  • Mitigating Challenges: Assist the Canadian red meat sector (beef and veal) in adhering to Judaic or Islamic slaughter laws.
  • Increasing Efficiency: Enhance processing and production efficiency of kosher and/or halal red meat in Canadian slaughter establishments.

Eligible Applicants

Eligible Applicants

  • Federally licensed for-profit organization incorporated in Canada.
  • Actively engaged in kosher and/or halal red meat slaughter processing and production or have plans to enter the kosher and/or halal red meat processing industry.
  • Ready to provide efficiency/productivity plans for kosher and/or halal production, validated by:
    • A credible internal expert (e.g., industry expert or Professional Engineer).
    • An external resource providing credible analysis or validation.
  • Currently engaging in kosher and/or halal production and plans to increase productivity/efficiency in:
    • Kosher
    • Halal
    • Both
Accessible Technology Program (ATP)

Eligible Activities

  • Consultant/Efficiency Expert: Hire an expert to analyze and recommend improvements for on-site kosher and/or halal production.
  • Cost-Reducing Investments: Invest in technologies and equipment to reduce operating costs and enhance productivity, including plant automation and innovative practices for kosher and/or halal production.

  • Expertise Acquisition: Efficiency and productivity evaluations.
  • Equipment Purchase, Delivery, Installation, and Implementation:
    • Cattle-handling equipment
    • Stunning apparatus
    • Slaughtering devices and lines (conveyors, elevators, winches)
    • Meat dismembering lines and processing (deboning)
    • Scales
    • Cutting tools
    • Blades
  • Improvement Technologies:
    • Consciousness assessment tools
    • Production line improvements
  • Equipment and Storage Systems:
    • Cooler upgrades
