Depending on the project and location, SR&ED may complement funding opportunities offered through organizations such as the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP), Canada’s Regional Development Agencies, provincial innovation programs, and industry-specific initiatives supporting manufacturing, clean technology, food processing, life sciences, and digital innovation. 

Businesses investing in sustainability initiatives may also benefit from the federal Clean Economy Investment Tax Credits (ITCs), while manufacturers expanding production capacity may qualify for regional grant and loan programs that support capital investment, automation, and commercialization. Although each program has unique eligibility requirements and funding rules, many can work together as part of a comprehensive funding strategy. 

As Canada’s funding landscape continues to evolve, organizations that understand how these programs interact are better equipped to pursue larger, more ambitious innovation projects with reduced financial risk.
