OVIN – WinterTech Development Program

The Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN)’s WinterTech Development Program is an Ontario government funding program designed to support projects related to the development, validation, testing, demonstration, and prototyping of mobility technologies and services designed to meet the unique demands of winter weather conditions.

Funding Amount
Up to one-third of the eligible project costs up to a maximum of $500,000. Minimum 2:1 cash match by applicants and/or partners. The match must come from private sector contributions.
Eligible Applicants
Small-or Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) with operations in Ontario and fewer than 500 employees. Must have a minimum of two partners: an SME and another non-academic partner.
Eligible Activities
Technology/product/service validation, testing, demonstration, and prototyping of mobility products and services in severe winter weather conditions for priority areas: mass light vehicles, heavy duty vehicles, transportation infrastructure, intelligent transportation systems, and transit-supportive systems and vehicles.

Give your application the best chance of approval. Ryan supports the writing of applications for more than 100 Canadian federal and provincial government grants, tax credits, and no-interest loan programs.
Amount of Funding
Successful applicants may receive the following:
- Funding up to one-third of the eligible project costs up to a maximum of $500,000 in co-investment support;
- Funding may be allotted over a maximum of 24 months (two years);
- A minimum 2:1 cash match by applicants and/or partners is required; and
- The match must come from private sector contributions.
Eligible Applicants
To be eligible applicants and partners must meet these required criteria:
- Applicants and partners must both be SMEs with less than 500 employees that are full time equivalent (FTE) with a maximum annual revenue of $50 million;
- National and multinational enterprises (NEs and MNEs) are permitted to be partners;
- Institutions that are publicly funded;
- Not-for-profit organizations
- Indigenous communities; and
- Municipalities.
Eligible Activities
Projects may be eligible if:
- They last a maximum of 24 months;
- They are at a minimum of a technology readiness level (TRL) of 3-9;
- Related to technology, products, and service validation; and
- All projects must include proof that actual products may be showcased in customer sites, at tradeshows, etc.
