Alberta Media Fund Grants

Receive up to $20,000 to $200,000 in Grant Funding.

The Alberta Media Fund supports organizations and individuals developing screen-based media, scripts, books and magazines, and sound recordings. The program encompasses several different funding streams that support a variety of costs, including Albertan labour, so that media producers can create Alberta content and advance products towards a more successful market release.

Amount of Funding

Up to 18%-50% of eligible costs covered to a maximum $55k-$200k, depending on program stream:

  • Alberta Made Production Grant: up to 25% of eligible Alberta labour and non-labour costs to a maximum $125,000.
  • Post-Production, Visual Effects and Digital Animation Grant: up to 18% of total eligible invoiced labour to a maximum $200,000.
  • Project/Script Development Grant: up to $15,000 for pre-development costs, up to $25,000 for first draft costs, and up to $15,000 for final drafts costs for a total grant of up to $55,000 per project.
  • Cultural Industry Grants: up to $20,000 for project expenses related to book and magazine publishing, film production, or sound recording; and up to $50,000 to cover operating expenses for organizations that have been designated by Alberta Culture, Multiculturalism, and Status of Women.

Eligible Activities

Eligible activities supported by Alberta Media Fund programming vary by funding stream:

  • The Alberta Made Production Grant supports Alberta labour and non-labour costs (e.g., production supplies) associated with the development of Alberta content.
  • The Post-Production, Visual Effects and Digital Animation Grant supports eligible invoiced labour costs associated with the development and delivery of post-production services in Alberta, including visual effects and digital animation.
  • The Project/Script Development Grant supports pre-development, first draft, and final draft costs such as writer and producer fees, research and travel expenses, and demo reel and pitching material.
  • Cultural Industry Grants are available to cover project expenses (such as editing fees, production costs, and promotion and publicity) or operating expenses (such as administration and programming).
