Alberta Innovates Provides Funding for 2025 Alberta Cleantech Awards Winners
30/06/2025
Alberta Innovates recently awarded funding support to the winners of the 2025 Alberta Cleantech Awards, an event held as part of the large-scale Inventures 2025 Conference in Calgary.
The awards recognized Alberta-based businesses that are making notable advancements in clean technology sectors, including hydrogen technology, predictive analytics, and sustainable water management.
This vast awarded funding reflects Alberta Innovates’ commitment to support Canadian-driven innovation, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.
Alberta Clean Hydrogen Projects Receive Funding
Dow was named “Adopter of the Year” for its Path2Zero project. The Path2Zero initiative involves a $6.5 billion (CAD) plan to develop North America’s first net-zero ethylene cracker and polyethylene complex using clean hydrogen technology.
This project aims to significantly reduce emissions by 2030 in order to help meet zero net-emissions plans while also enhancing industrial capacity. Alberta Innovates’ financial backing contributes to accelerating projects like Path2Zero, addressing both industrial and environmental challenges.
“Alberta Innovates and Foresight have been working alongside each other for years to support Alberta’s cleantech companies. Hosting the Foresight Cleantech Awards at Inventures marks the first time our two organizations have partnered to celebrate and elevate the incredible talent in Alberta’s cleantech sector.”
– Mark Summers, Interim VP of Investments, Alberta Innovates
Funding Alberta’s Emerging Cleantech Businesses
Among the award winners, Ayrton Energy Inc. received recognition as “Startup Venture of the Year” for its Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) technology, aimed at improving hydrogen transport efficiency and safety using existing infrastructure.
Nanoprecise Sci Corp, recognized as “Scaleup Venture of the Year,” provides predictive maintenance technology leveraging artificial intelligence to reduce downtime and improve asset management.
Other recognized businesses included the Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN), awarded “Supporter of the Year,” and Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), named “Funder of the Year.” Both organizations have provided substantial resources and networking opportunities for businesses and researchers, significantly influencing Alberta’s cleantech landscape.
Addressing Sustainable Water Management Solutions
Additionally, Alberta Innovates co-hosted the Innovation Forum on Water Reuse, addressing the increasing importance of water sustainability. This forum convened industry stakeholders, policymakers, and community groups to discuss technology and policy initiatives for sustainable water use.
“Water reuse is both a social issue and a policy issue. Are people willing to drink water sourced from wastewater? Social dimensions can be a driver of adoption if done right but can just as easily be a barrier.”
– Norman Neumann, a professor at the University of Alberta’s School of Public Health and a Centre for Healthy Communities scientist
