Bioenterprise Opens $100K Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program (SGAP) for CleanTech Adoption

Bioenterprise Canada has launched round two of its Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program (SGAP), offering up to $100,000 in non-repayable grant funding to Southern Ontario’s food and agri-tech businesses.

The SGAP funding program aims to support the adoption of clean technologies and sustainable practices, helping businesses modernize operations and pursue environmentally conscious growth.

Funding Snapshot: Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program

Funded by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), SGAP aims to support southern Ontario’s agri-tech businesses in adopting clean technologies and sustainable practices.  

By reducing risks associated with new technology integration and promoting sustainability, the program helps businesses achieve operational modernization, reduce carbon footprints, accelerate growth, and create meaningful employment. 

Funding Amount: 

Eligible applicants can receive non-repayable funding covering a portion of their project costs, specifically: 

  • Up to 40% of total project expenses, capped at $100,000. 
  • Businesses must contribute the remaining 60%. 
  • If funding is awarded, a 4% program management fee payable to Bioenterprise applies. 

Eligible Applicants: 

Businesses interested in applying should ensure they meet specific criteria, including: 

  • Being a for-profit or not-for-profit organization in the food or agri-tech sectors. 
  • Incorporated in Canada and located within southern Ontario. 
  • Generating at least $200,000 in annual revenues (unless classified as a not-for-profit). 
  • Prepared to adopt proven clean technologies or sustainable enhancements with support from an eligible Sustainability Project Partner. 
  • Capable of funding 60% of the eligible project costs independently. 
  • Able to provide a clear statement of work from the selected vendor. 

Eligible Projects: 

Projects funded through SGAP should directly support clean technology adoption or sustainability enhancement, including: 

  • Advisory services and professional consultations to develop sustainability strategies. 
  • Facility audits and energy studies aimed at optimizing operations and identifying conservation measures. 
  • Integration and adoption of proven clean technology solutions, including associated equipment costs. 
  • Internal labour costs directly associated with implementing project activities. 
  • Additional relevant activities that advance technology adoption or provide necessary consultation assessments. 

Timeline: 

Applications are currently open, with key dates outlined below: 

  • Application Deadline: August 6, 2025, at 11:59 PM EDT. 
  • Project Start Date: August 1, 2025. 
  • Project Completion Deadline: No later than October 1, 2026. 
  • Notification of successful and unsuccessful applicants expected by October 2025.
